It's likely that the clay was heated with fingers during the compression step. Don't worry, the clay is salvageable. Add 1 drop of X20 or 3 drops of water and let the clay sit for a few minutes. Afterward, roll the clay a few times on a hard, flat surface to compress the binder. This will restore the clay to its normal functionality.
