There is no need to coat the rubber barrel in anything but to make sure its clean first run the barrel with the shot, water 1 cm above the shot and a heaped teaspoon of barrlebrite for 20 minutes and then repeat with a new fresh mixture before adding in the metal for barrelling.
Make sure you keep checking on the metal after 20 minutes as over barrelling can cause pitting
