When preparing a scorifier or crucible; it is strongly advised that the product is tested for cracks prior to use. A good quality crucible will 'ping' when hit with a soft hammer, while a damaged one will 'thud'.
The item must be preheated before use, slowly heating to 600 C and placed on a ceramic plate.
It is also advised to store in a dry place, even the smallest bit of moisture can cause the crucible to crack on heating.
